SUSTAINABILITY & OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT
All ELEVEN Australia products are 100% recyclable. Where possible ELEVEN Australia has made steps to help reduce our carbon footprint. This is a major focus for us and in 2020 we are looking forward to launching some exciting sustainability innovations around our packaging. Our shampoos, conditioners and styling products will all be made from a new sustainable material – keep tuned for more. We know we aren’t totally there yet but we’re on the way and have currently made some great steps towards our goals!
For example through our research, development and testing practices we utilise ECOHEAD showerheads to wash and rinse products in hair. ECOHEAD products use half the amount of water than conventional shower heads which helps contribute to a reduction in energy, water and power usage.
We also do our best to partner with suppliers who are committed to reducing their environmental impact. Where possible our suppliers make conscious efforts to:
- Reduce plastic use
- Utilise recycled or recyclable packaging
- Use biodegradable packaging
- Use solar energy
- Reduce water consumption
Here are some other amazing sustainability initiatives from our partners and suppliers:
In an effort to reduce environmental impact one of our brush suppliers planted grass on the roof of their factory complex. This grass specifically needs less water irrigation and greatly aids in sheltering the factory from heat – resulting in the lowering of indoor temperatures and the need for air cooling equipment and electricity.
Our European print supplier is one of only three Cradle to Cradle certified printing companies in the world. Cradle to Cradle is an environmental certification guaranteeing that a product does not pollute, does not consume the Earth’s resources and becomes part of the natural cycle after use. The idea is to invent and produce products that can be used over and over again, resulting in products that don’t generate waste and are not toxic to humans or the environment.
All of our products are cruelty free and PETA approved (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and we proudly support Beauty without Bunnies.
EU law no longer allows companies to use the bunny or cruelty free logo on packaging as it is illegal to test on animals. As our products are sold globally we have removed these symbols to ensure that our packaging is universal.
It is also a non-negotiable that we have the correct documentation from all of our suppliers and manufacturers to ensure that each individual ingredient in our range is sourced ethically and not harmful to any animals in the process.
We strive to offer as many vegan products as possible. The exception are the products that contain silk amino acids from silk worms, lanolin from sheep’s wool and wax from bees. All these ingredients help us provide you with products that perform exceptionally well and were pleased to say that none of the animals are harmed in the process. Studies have shown that animal farming can contribute up to 60% more greenhouse emissions throughout all production efforts, something that is not the case while producing vegan products.
ELEVEN Australia is proud to reduce our environmental footprint wherever possible and offering an extensive range of vegan products allows us to do this.
On its own, palm oil is not an ingredient we use in our products, however a handful of other ingredients we use contain palm oil. For these ingredients, we obtain a RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) Certificate from the supplier to ensure it is produced without environmental damage. This certifies that the palm oil used is always sourced from sustainable palm farms.
ANIMAL HAIR BRISTLES
Our range of styling brushes are made of 60% cruelty-free boar bristles. To continue our passion for providing high performing products we use boar bristles as they condition hair while styling. As these bristles are cruelty-free the boars are never harmed in the process.
GOOD MANUFACTURING PROCESSES
ELEVEN Australia ensures that all of our manufacturers have their Good Manufacturing Practice Certificate to guarantee the quality and ethical production of all our products.
Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) is an international system that ensures quality standards for cosmetics. These guidelines ensure quality practices and reproducibility across the production, control, storage and shipping of products. All elements within these production stages are vetted including: people, premises, processes, products and procedures.
